The Florida Agency for Healthcare Administration was created by Chapter 20, Florida Statutes, as the chief health policy and planning entity for the state. AHCA’s motto is “Better Health Care for All Floridians.” AHCA has wide-ranging responsibilities, including:
Per their website, AHCA aims to: “reduce the number of uninsured across the state, to enhance our ability to target fraudulent providers, to reduce unnecessary regulation, and to reduce administrative costs in order to ensure that dollars go to serve patients and more.” (IS&O). The agency also requires individuals to complete a Level II Background Screening in order to secure licenses. We are proud to be a part of AHCA, a state-regulated agency, as it improves integrity and reliability within the entire Florida health care community.
Companion care services can help an individual with activities of daily living such as bathing, cooking, cleaning, or laundry. These services are particularly useful for individuals with physical limitations that are still living on their own.
One of the biggest benefits of companion care is friendship. Many older adults experience lonliness if they don’t have emotional support from friends and family. A companion can help by being a friend – holding a conversation, playing a game, or taking the senior out for activities like walking or seeing a movie.
An older adult may already have full-time or part-time caregivers in their life for medical needs. A companion can help relieve other caregivers allowing them to rest, recharge, and practice self-care so that they can offer the best care possible for the aging adult. If you are currently a caregiver for an aging loved one, consider how a companion care service could allow you more time for yourself.
A companion can also drive an individual to appointments or activities. Many aging adults feel confined to their homes because they can no longer safely drive. But a companion offers convenient transportation to allow the senior to continue attending activities outside the home.
Each year, millions of adults over the age of 65 fall – causing serious injuries and sometimes death. Fortunately, a companion can help ensure the safety of an aging adult. They can prevent home accidents and increase the safety of the environment. Also, they can contact emergency services if an accident does occur.
Older adults value their independence. And they should have the opportunity to live as independently as possible for as long as possible. Companion care can help make that happen. By providing basic services and emotional support, companions limit the need for seniors to move from independent living to assisted living.
A companion can help an aging adult with medication reminders and following instructions from his or her doctor. They can also help the senior with an exercise routine to promote better heart health, muscle growth, and balance.
Older adults with companions have a higher quality of life. They have better physical and emotional health as a result of their interactions with their companion. Companions help seniors thrive despite any limitations they may have.
